This was, out of all five recordings on this release, the first I ever set out to arrange and play. Years ago now, with no knowledge of the genre, the structure of it It or the detail regarding what's being played and how, It has become like a bad habit in the end, but it has a certain charm.
The first version of this song I ever heard was one by Leon Redbone.
Followed by my absolute musical hero (understatement) Billie Holiday and Ethel Waters. The Washboard Rhythm Kings were also playing an incredible version of this around the same time. For a more modern Jazz approach to the song Lizzie Miles, later in her career recorded a version. Then go check out her earlier work. Sensational.
